Abstract
In many ways hydroelectric is an ideal source of energy. Water is stored behind a dam wall and then released in a controlled manner through a power plant. Once the facility is built, there are no emissions.
Drawbacks are that the dam can take up large amounts of arable land and can destroy natural ecology. Also most of the suitable sites have already been developed, so this technology does not offer potential for growth.
